Currently working on putting together the Houston street art zine!  Things are going really well.  I’ve already glued down most of the text, so now I just have to figure out a nice layout for the photos.  I’ll post the page scans in a couple days or so once I get a chance to photocopy the zine.

I got some great zine trades in the mail today!  One package was from Hannah Robinson who makes tiny zines about tea and other things.  She is an illustrator from the UK.  Another zine I received was Echo! Echo! #9 by Keet Geniza who lives in Canada.  Getting zines in the mail definitely makes this hectic day better.  I’ll post some photos of the zines later! I also found out about some...

ofakind: These are the four that are getting her going right now.  If you visit Ellen Van Dusen’s Brooklyn apartment-slash-studio, you encounter a lot of (really brightly colored) source material. New Zines
I need to update this blog with some zine photos, but for now I’m just going to talk about the new zines I’m working on at the moment: 1. For the winter I am putting together a zine about kawaii things and the kawaii culture, especially in the context of Japan.  I’m thinking of making it a bigger format, 11x17 maybe?  I’ll have to see where it goes once I start working on...

I talked about zines with the kids in my Illustration class today.  They were really excited about making some zines and I was really excited to share what I knew with them.  I think they had a blast.  Best class ever?  I think so.  :)

“I’ve always been fascinated by books. I love the personal experience of enjoying a book in solitude; it’s a one-on-one experience. The tactile quality and the back and forth, the ability to handle the object draw me to books.” - Philip Aarons, Vice Chair of PS1
